Facts about the author Khaled Hosseini was born in March 4th, 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan and he is an Afghan-American novelist. He debuted in the year 2003 and released his book called â€Å"The Kite Runner†. The book opened to widespread critical acclaim and strong commercial success worldwide. And for this kind of novel he received Alex Award, Boeke Prize, ALA Notable Book and a lot of other prestigious awards. He has then authored several other books in his career. There was no turning back for Khaled Hosseini after his first breakthrough because he yet again produced a masterpiece in 2007 with the book â€Å"A Thousand Splendid Suns†. The book has been his most decent and productive authorship for which he received plenty of awards and†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¢ Sohrab: Sohrab is the son of Hassan and he lost his father and mother when he was a kid and eventually sent to a home where parentless people lives. †¢ Soraya: Soraya is a young afghan wife of Amir. She is unable to have children after many tries. (Wikipedia.com and the book) Themes Love and tension: Amir has a high love for his father, Baba. He doesn’t think Baba quite loves him. Amir sacrifices his friend Hassan by not taking any stand against rape by Assef and his men towards Hassan. He gets selfish and behaves as if he has not heard or seen anything at all. He does this only to win Baba’s love. After Hassan is killed by Taliban he has left a son named Sohrab. Amir takes the responsibility to take care of Sohrab. Amir and his wife Soraya anyhow takes Sohrab back to America. Sohrab isn’t eager to speak until Amir tutor him how to fly a kite. Rape: Rape is mentioned several times. First rape was occurred with Hassan where Assef’s gang raped him when he refused to give Amir’s kite. The rape of Hassan causes Amir to be a selfish human being. Other occasions of rape are in the truck of a married woman, while fleeing from Kabul. Fortunately, Baba stops the rape to take place (sparknotes.com).
